1. Who was bakin’? Suzanne McDonald at Toffee Princess. What I nibbled on? Traditional Scottish tablets, with cow’s milk, and even with camel’s milk. If I’d ever imagined brittle condensed milk and sugar lava crumbling into a milky sweet goo in my mouth, that fantasy just came alive. What I woke up craving this morning? The white chocolate and strawberry tablets. I can only imagine the tart-chocolaty-velvet-sugary explosion those tablets could induce. By the time I was done fumbling around with my camera, someone had snapped up the last pack. Argh. How do you get your paws on this? Check out Suzanne’s website or visit Arte at Time Square Center for a taste.
2. Who was bakin’? Sneha and Ravisha Bhatia at Sugaholic. What I nibbled on? A baby vanilla cupcake, with pink swirly icing and rainbow sprinkles on top. An ode to girlhood. (They had yellow ones too for the dudes out there. And in case you’re wondering, those green ones have shawarma spits and peetas on top…) What I woke up craving this morning? I was so sugar-ed out that I foolishly passed them by, but those burger cupcakes, with buns that had that uncanny airy and crumbly consistency of real toasted sesame burger buns. Now that’s called Art. How do you get your paws on this? Check out Sugaholic’sfacebookpage.
3. Who was bakin’? Sidiqa at Spontaneous Euphoria. What I nibbled on? A dense slab of blueberry-studded vanilla cake, with a translucent sheet of sugary icing draped over the top. (pictured top left) What I woke up craving this morning? The blueberry cake. It had that comforting home-baked simplicity and lightness that would do my afternoon cup of coffee proud. How do you get your paws on this? Check out Sidiqa’s blog at www.spontaneous-euphoria.blogspot.com.
4. Who was bakin’? Bekky Britton at LilyBakes. What I nibbled on? Shamelessly, every one of the six homemade chutneys that Bekky had out for sampling. Apricot & ginger; chili apple (a jar of which I bought); fig, tomato and caramelized onion; plum chutney; mango chutney, and lemon curd. What I woke up craving this morning? Lemon curd. It’s everything to love about the smooth, gooey filling on a lemon bar all bottled up for the ultimate luscious lemony experience. How do you get your paws on this? Attend events where Bekky’s busting out her jars. Do go armed with your crustiest loaf of bread, yogurt, or whatever else you can slather/mix/ dribble with chutney for the ride home.
5. Who was bakin’? The bakers at The Cakery, Dubai What I nibbled on? “Melting moments” with the buttery crumbliness of English shortcakes, and a peanut butter chewy of some sort. (not pictured) What I woke up craving this morning? Weirdly enough, I’m craving these blondies I came across on their website after the event: “A chunky, moist white chocolate peanut-butter blondie with a delicate, sweet and sumptuous flavor!” I’m also wishing that I tucked in a slice of that low-fat strawberry cheescake. It’s sort of grown on me through the few hours of blogging I put in today… How do you get your paws on this? By emailing them with your order once you’ve drooled over the goodies on their blog
6. Who was bakin’? Karen Bobker at Meow Makes What I nibbled on? Everything. Plain, date and ginger brownies, and a lick of an onion-marmalade dipped spoon What I woke up craving this morning? The plain brownie. It had the dense mouth feel of a chocolate brownie, but was not overpoweringly decadent or sugary in the cloying way that some brownies can be. A perfect day-time brownie in my opinion. How do you get your paws on this? Well, you can’t really, unless Karen lands up at some community event similar to the bakefest at Wild Peeta. She’s a full-time Financial Advisor, so baking goodies is something reserved for friends and loved ones.
7. Who was bakin’? Sadly, I didn’t get more info for who baked these babies, other than a twitter ID after some post-event scouting: @cnystedt What I nibbled on? Teeny crumbles of banana cake and a smidgen of the fruity spiced cupcake that I took home for sis. What I woke up craving this morning? The cupcake, like a mini volcano of tangy fruit bits, nuts, and spice, erupting cream cheese from the top. If sis doesn’t eat it in a few hours, consider it mine. How do you get your paws on this? No clue. In my defense, it really was a cramped fish market in there…despite all, I saved my cupcake from being smashed by the crowds and emerged triumphant, with a patchwork bag full of goodies to take home.
